Poems and Thoughts by Frank Maurer
|
My Wonderful Tree House. The huge White oak, Quercus alba, stood waiting in our yard.It was almost begging that a little boy Would hoist up 'prefabricated' framing To finally form a well constructed tree house! It was to be my hideaway after a day at school. I sometimes even slept there overnight, much to the shagrin of my parents! To ascend, a pulley and a rope system lifted me With its board seat through the first stage, Then, with railroad spikes carefully driven into the trunk, to complete the trek. These devices ultimately protected the tree inhabitant From any enemy marauder attempting to invade, Yielding to the occupant, bliss, thirty feet high up in the air. |
